Clara Edwards

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Clara Edwards was a fictional character played by actress Hope Summers on the American television sitcom The Andy Griffith Show.

Clara was Aunt Bee's best friend on the series, and occasionally looked after Sheriff Andy Taylor and Opie when Aunt Bee was out of town. Clara was known as the town "busybody" and was often consumed with town gossip. She was exceedingly melodramatic, often prone weeping at the onset of anything remotely emotional. The character was occasionally referred to as Clara Johnson, and even Bertha at times. She often referred to her deceased husband, "Mr. Johnson", alluding to the fact that her married name was Johnson and she later went by her maiden name. Clara held the honor of winning the blue ribbon for the best pickles at the Mayberry town fair 12 years running. She also played organ in the church choir.
