The coat of arms of the Uzbek SSR was adopted on February 14, 1937 by the government of the Uzbek SSR. The coat of arms is based on the coat of arms of the Soviet Union. It shows symbols of agriculture (cotton and wheat) and heavy industry (oil derrick and pipeline) as well as a symbol of the Uzbek people, a carpet. The rising sun over a map of Central Asia symbolizes the future of this continent, while the five pointed red star stands for the "socialist revolution on all five continents".

The banner bears the USSR State motto ("Proletarians of all countries, unite!") in both Russian and Uzbek (Бүтүн дүне пролетарлари, бирлашинтиз!; current Latin script: Bütün düne proletarlari, birlashintiz!).

The acronym of the Uzbek SSR is shown only in the Uzbek alphabet, and reads Ўз. С.С.Р. for Ўзбекистон Совет Социалистик Республикаси, Uzbek Soviet Socialist Republic.

The Karakalpak ASSR used a variant of this coat of arms, with the State motto in both Karakalpak and Uzbek, and the republic's acronym (ҚҚ АССР).

The emblem was changed in 1992 to the present Uzbekistan coat of arms, which retains many parts of the old Soviet one.
