English Embankment

The English Embankment (Russian: Англи́йская на́бережная; Angliyskaya Naberezhnaya) or English Quay is a street along the Neva River in Central Saint Petersburg. It used to be one of the most fashionable streets in Saint Petersburg.
The English Embankment was built in 1763 to 1767, and it's named after the former English church that was located on the street, the building is now the Saint Petersburg Official Seightseeing Bureau. The present structure was erected in 1814 and 1815 to a design by Giacomo Quarenghi.
The street begins at the New Admiralty Canal, and the street ends at the Decembrists Square, where it becomes the Admiralty Embankment.
The English Embankment is mostly home to palacial houses of imperial Russian nobility and pre-revolutionary foreign embassies, but it's very popular among tourist because of the wonderful view of the Neva. The Menshikov Palace and the Academy of Arts building is just opposite. Many sightseeing boats starts at the embankment.
