Eugenio Corini (born July 30, 1970 in Bagnolo Mella, Italy) is an Italian soccer player, currently a Palermo captain.
He started his career in the Brescia youth squad, but he soon joined the first team, being called to be part it of when just 16 years old, and making his debut the following season. He became a regular for the Lombardian team in the 1988/1989 and 1989/1990 season, before to be noted and signed by Juventus.
In his first season with Juventus, when just 20 years old, Corini played 25 times, and scored one goal. He soon became a regular also in the Under 21 national team squad of the early 1990s, winning a Youth European Championship and representing Italy in the 1992 Summer Olympics held in Barcelona. But, despite his success for Italy at the youth levels, he has never being capped for the full national team. However, he did receive call-ups for the full national team during 1992/1993 season and more recently on November 2002.
In season 1992/1993, Corini was sold to Sampdoria, where he had 24 appearances, and several injury problems. In the next years, Corini moved from team to team almost every season (Brescia again, Piacenza and Verona) without however being able to show his full potential.
In October 1998, Hellas Verona loaned him to city rivals Chievo Verona, in Serie B. Corini soon became a mainstay of the team, being named captain and leading his team to an extraordinary promotion to Serie A in 2001 and a UEFA Cup qualification the following season, after having been first-placed at the Winter break.
He joined Palermo in 2003, bringing the Sicilian team to win the 2003/2004 Serie B league and then in 2004/2005 to qualify Palermo for the UEFA Cup. His contract with Palermo, renewed in late 2005, will end in the summer of 2007, when Corini will be 37.
He plays as an inventive playmaker on midfield specialising in free kicks, corners, penalty kicks and long passes. He was a member of the national squad that competed at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona.
