ELSA (The European Law Students' Association) is an international, independent, non-political, non-profit-making organisation run by and for law students.

ELSA was founded in 1981 by students from Austria, Hungary, Poland and West Germany and has grown to be the worlds largest independent law students association and it is represented in more than 200 law faculties in 35 countries across Europe with membership in excess of 30 000 students and young lawyers.

ELSA has a consultative status as a NGO at numerous organisations of the UN, such as: ECOSOC, UNCITRAL, UNESCO, and UNHCR.

ELSA's activities fall into three main branches:

S&C - Seminars and Conferences

AA - Academic Activities

  • panel discussions
  • Lawyer At Work programme
  • competitions, in particular EMCC (ELSA Moot Court Competition) on WTO law

STEP - Students' Trainee Exchange Programme
