Music career

Joe Budden initially gained popularity on New York City's influential mixtape circuit and has earned critical acclaim through his Mood Muzik mixtape series.[citation needed] He was also an affiliate of DJ Clue's Desert Storm Records, and maintains a close relationship with artists signed to the label, such as Fabolous.[citation needed]

His sole studio album release was the self titledJoe Budden which produced the 2003 summer hit 'Pump It Up'. Joe had been working on his second album titled The Growth since 2004, however it has suffered numerous delays, leading some to speculate that the album is in some sort of music equivalent of development hell, though he denied this.[1] Following his release from Def Jam, Budden had stated in an interview with Paul Rosenberg that the current status of the album is over. Budden explained that "The Growth" as he knew it had "probably been released" in the form of song from Mood Muzik 2 and 3. Currently a free agent, Budden explained in the same interview that he hoped to have a deal in place early next year for a second album.

Mood Muzik 3

As Joe Budden stated in an interview [2], he's currently reviewing his options on how to release the next installment in the Mood Muzik mixtape series, Mood Muzik 3: For Better or for Worse. In a recent interview on October 11th, 2007, Joe Budden states that the highly anticipated mixtape will be released on December 15th 2007. [3]

Deal with Amalgam Digital

As of December 21, 2007, Joe Budden has officially signed a contract for a record deal on Amalgam Digital.

For the starving Joe Budden fans, Mood Muzik 3: The Album, will feature songs in their entirety and unreleased material, sans DJ voice overs. This will serve as a prelude to his forthcoming album entitled “Padded Room”. Both releases will be exclusively distributed worldwide by Amalgam Entertainment, LLC while Amalgam Digital functions as the label.[4]

Feud with Jay-Z

Joe Budden raised eyebrows on a remix of "Pump it Up" featuring Jay-Z where the rappers appeared to be dissing each other. [5] This has led to speculations of bad blood between the two being a factor in the constant delays his second album has suffered, since Jay Z is now the President of Joe's parent label - Def Jam. However, both men have denied this. [6]

On the track "Talk 2 Em", which leaked December 15, 2007, Budden took stabs at Jay-Z's relevance as an artist and his abilities as Def Jam president. He said things like "No one's buying your albums but you," and, "Maybe it’s time to study your understudy." [7]
