Layla bint al-Minhal (also Laila) (Arabic: ليلى بنت المنهال) was a sahaba of Muhammad and the wife of Malik ibn Nuwayra.
Layla was the daughter of Al Minhal and was later also known as Umm Tamim. She was acclaimed as one of the most beautiful girls in Arabia, for her gorgeous eyes and lovely legs. When she came of age, she was pursued by many men, but rejected their advances. Finally, she met and married Malik ibn Nuwayra.
He reminded them of Khalid's cruelty, and warned them that unless they fought bravely their women would be taken prisoners. With their hearts set on victory, their first assault was a success, and Khalid was driven out of his tent. As they entered the tent, they found Layla, Khalid's wife, and Mujja'ah, one of their chiefs whom Khalid had taken prisoner on his way to Aqraba, and who had been kept in fetters ever since. Layla had charge of him, and Malik's men rushed to kill her, but they were stopped by Mujja'ah who asked them to spare her life because she had treated him well.
However, when Khalid saw that his men were fighting half-heartedly, he ordered every tribe to fight separately. This fired the warriors' enthusiasm and some sort of rivalry took place. Before long, the apostates were defeated and no less than 7000 of them were killed, among whom was Nahar Al-Rajjal].
