As a single it has been released only in 1994 (although it was a bonus track on the Dre Day and Let Me Ride EPs). The video was part of the Death Row Uncut DVD released in 2000, and it was aired only in Canada. It was Suge Knight's desperate attempt to cash in money from the old Death Row licensed Dre-recorded songs. If we watch the video we'll see that it's a well edited, well constructed one with Snoop, Dre and Nate fully participating in it, so it's not an after shot piece of movie without the artist involved. Nate appearance is only for lip-synching the original chorus sung by Donny Hathaway. Daz is also involved on the track at the part of the chorus rap.
The lyrics is about the hopeless prospect for a black kid to get along in the future. The intro is a carjacking scene with some gunshots heard near a suburban kindergarten. The main character is a black male who escapes from jail during an inner gang war-riot. Then an in medias res part is shown where Nate sings with a church choir. He gets back to the streets to continues to sell drugs, gambling on the pavement, & getting rid of the other rival dealers. One of his victims is a guy whose little brother is in the same crip as the murderer. Later the dominant band breaks into a funeral to eliminate the rest of the opponent mobsters. In that point can only we see that it is the same church where Nate's singing. As a result of the massacre the man gets back to jail, and earlier the kid accepts money from him so it projects us that the kid's way of living will be the same and it's a vicious circle for them.
