Manassas Park has experienced a division between the city; those of the Blooms Crossing development area (which include the new Park Center, and recently announced Blooms Grove Station) which represents the more traditional demographics of the rapidly growing Northern Virginia megalopolis; residents with post-secondary education, larger disposable incomes, and newly designed communities. The aforementioned area is in stark contrast to the original section of Manassas Park, which includes large sections of older homes indicative of small tract residences that many feel signify poor urban development and planning (and whose modifications on small tracts of land are thought to further the misconception of the poverty label often attached with this section of the city), a large immigrant population, and a substantive income disparity as compared to the Blooms Crossing development area. Residents of Northern Virginia feel that the responsible redevelopment of the older section of Manassas Park is imperative to redefining the reputation of Manassas Park in general and attracting more affluent residents to the city.
The city of Manassas Park is served by Manassas Park City Schools.
The Manassas Park Police Department offers many services, including animal control, a narcotics and gang task force, and a K-9 unit. The department maintains 50+ employees and officers, and the city has recently constructed a modern 3 story police station in 2007 to replace the aging old station, with highly advanced security and multimedia systems provided by ACNS, a local Manassas Park telecommunications and security company.
