Ngozi is a city located in northern Burundi. It is the capital city of Ngozi Province. Its elevation is 1820 and its population is 70,760.

Ngozi is also a small town in eastern Zambia. It has an elevation of 1162m and a population of 6438.

Ngozi is also a first name from southern Nigeria meaning blessing. The language behind the name is Igbo. Ngozi chukwu means God's blessing

In many parts of southern Africa, the word ngozi refers to a vengeful ancestral spirit. Victims of murder, those who committed suicide, and those who were not afforded a conventional burial (such as those whose who have been declared dead but whose bodies are still missing) are examples of those regarded as likely candidates and are often remembered during an inexplicable spate of unfortunate events. The series unfortunate events, typically involving great losses such as car accidents, severe illness, sudden unemployment or divorce all occurring in quick succession, may induce speculation linking the suffering to unresolved issues with potentially vengeful ancestors. Speculation under such circumstances may prompt consultation with a specialist healer (such as a sangoma or a svikiro) to ascertain the cause of suffering and the remedial courses of action to be taken.
