Salvadoran hip hop (also known as "Guanaco", "Wanako", or "Guanako" rap/hip hop) is hip hop and rap music that comes from El Salvador. It is a relatively new style of music, when groups like Pescozada and Mecate formed in the late 1990's, which have grown to be acclaimed and famous throughout the world. Because of the poverty, growth, war, bloodshed, dictatorship, gangs, and other things El Salvador has survived, their new generation has a different perspective of the world. They do not usually rap about regular hip-hop topics (such as prostitutes, money, cars, drugs, and sex), but rap about today's youth, generation, politics, and gangs. Reggaeton groups like Heavy Clan, however, sometimes rap about the more common topics.
