The name of the stations in the North West and London was Smooth FM until March 26th 2007. The format of Soul and Jazz was changed to music that was once described as "middle of the road".
Following owners Guardian Media Group's acquisition of the three Saga stations, they decided to change the name of them, along with the North West England and London versions of Smooth FM, to simply Smooth Radio.
A North East station will join the network on 8 January 2008, and will broadcast on 97.5 and 107.7 FM.
