Team Europe

Designate the unified team of the European Union in several sports competitions. While the European Union does not represent per se a country, European teams have been formed to compete in several international competitions, mainly against the USA. The most famous of these competitions is the Ryder Cup which opposes each year a European team and an American teams in golf.

- IAAF World Cup — Athletics
- NFL Global Junior Championship — American Football, includes a Team Europe
A spokesman for the European Union, Reijo Kemppinen, made a controversial declaration at the 2004 Athens Games. Kemppinen noted that EU member nations won 286 medals, including 82 gold medals. He therefore declared that Europe topped the ranking medals.[1]
