Coordinates: 62°36′10, N°29′44 The University of Joensuu was founded in 1969. It operates campuses in Joensuu and Savonlinna and a research station in Ilomantsi. The University offers undergraduate and graduate degree in eight different fields:

Around 7200 students are currently enrolled, of which 1200 at the Savonlinna campus. The number of staff is currently 1200.

University of Joensuu and University of Kuopio will form the University of Eastern Finland in 2010.
